Role and Facility Information

Vancouver General Hospital is seeking three full-time academic Emergency Trauma Radiologists to join Vancouver Imaging a dynamic group of 27 academic radiologists providing general and subspecialty diagnostic and interventional radiological services to the Vancouver General Hospital and UBC Hospital, both integral parts of the University of British Columbia (UBC) hospital system.

Our ER/TRAUMA section is one of the largest and most advanced academic Emergency Radiology groups in the world, and operates a radiology staff lead 24/7/365 from our reading room, which is centrally located within Vancouver General Hospital Emergency Department (ED). Our department is fully digital with state-of-the-art equipment including dual-source/ dual-energy computed tomography (CT). The clinical service includes X-ray, Ultrasound, CT head to toe including cardiac and Head and neck computed tomography angiography (CTA) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the acute setting (i.e. acute abdomen, magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP), musculoskeletal (MSK), Neuro).

All the members of our department are expected to engage and collaborate in both the clinical and non-clinical activities of the section, including providing substantial contributions in research, education, and/or sectional administration. Teaching requirements include training a bright group of Residents and more than six Emergency Radiology Fellows annually. We value our excellent collaborations with Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, Trauma, Cardiology, Stroke and Critical care services along with our other radiology department subspecialty sections.

All candidates must hold an medical degree (MD) degree (or equivalent), have completed Fellowship training in Emergency Trauma Radiology, and be eligible for licensure in the Province of British Columbia. All applicants must also be currently certified by, or eligible for certification by, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The successful applicant will be located at Vancouver General Hospital and UBC Hospital.

Mandatory candidate qualifications include:

Fellowship training is strongly preferred, and/or several years of substantial Emergency Radiology experience in an accredited Level 1 Trauma Center.

Quality improvement experiences are highly desirable.

1. Demonstrated experience in Cardiac CT with at least a Level 2 Cardiac CT certification.

2. Agreement to work on-site as the primary Radiologist responsible for imaging studies in an Accredited Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department on a “24/7” basis.

3. Demonstrated capacity to work efficiently in a high volume and fast paced practice.

4. Willingness and capacity to image and interpret all organ systems including neurologic, thoracic, vascular, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, musculoskeletal, gynecologic, early obstetric and cross cover other subspecialty sections.

5. Accomplished track record in clinical teaching at the medical student, resident, and Fellowship level.

6. Proven academic track record with an established research portfolio and peer reviewed publications is strongly desirable.

Additional qualities/qualifications include:

1. Have experience in all aspects of MRI and CT including body and neuroradiology.

2. Have experience in Dual-Energy CT.

3. Have experience and in-depth knowledge of contemporary low-dose CT techniques.

4. Have experience in working with and developing relationships in industry.

5. Have in-depth knowledge of educational and radiological information technology systems.

The successful candidate will enjoy a challenging practice including computed tomography (CT), ultrasound (US), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and General Radiography in a picture archiving & communication system (PACS) environment. The remuneration and vacation arrangements are competitive for this geographic region. Following a successful probation period, the candidate will have the opportunity to join this collaborative practice. University appointment at the University of British Columbia will be granted in the clinical stream commensurate with previous rank/experience.
