Ophthalmologist Glaucoma Sub-Specialty Position - Vancouver BC

Vancouver General Hospital - Eye Care Centre

The Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) and UBC are seeking an academic glaucoma sub-specialist to join the Ophthalmology group to provide a full-range of clinical glaucoma services in the Vancouver BC area.

With this position comes admitting privileges at the Vancouver General Hospital and surgical privileges at the Eye Care Centre and Mount St. Joseph Hospital. There will also be access to the treatment room at the Eye Care Centre, and shared lasers. The successful applicant will be granted a teaching position with the University of British Columbia.

Responsibilities include sharing in the on-call rota with the VGH ophthalmology group and taking an active role in the teaching of medical students, residents, colleagues, nurses, as determined by the department head. There will be an expectation of participation on committees within the department and hospital, attendance at departmental meetings, and a willingness to contribute to clinical research.

Preference will be given to candidates with strong letters of reference indicating good character, evidence of contribution to the ‘common good’, competence in cataract and glaucoma surgery, and successful experience in teaching medical students and residents.

The successful candidate must be a Canadian citizen or have landed immigrant status, be licensed to practice in the province of British Columbia, have CMPA coverage, Royal College certification, and will be required to maintain a Vancouver office and provide primary eye care for the population of Vancouver.
