Powell River

On the doorstep of both Vancouver and Vancouver Island lies the historic community of Powell River, located on the northern Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. Powell River has successfully transitioned from a resource extraction centre into both an outdoor adventure destination and an arts mecca. It boasts a network of world-class nature trails, abundant fresh and ocean water paddling, and alpine backcountry treking and skiing. In 2004, Powell River was named the "Cultural Capital of Canada" in recognition of its strong arts and cultural programs which includes a world renowned choral festival and a symphony academy. The city also has many community amenities, including a new and well-equipped hospital, an 18-hole championship golf course, an all-weather track, ball fields and a large recreation complex. Powell River is situated within a temperate rainforest and typically experiences warm summers and mild winters.
