Role and Facility Information

The Division of Orthopaedics at Lions Gate Hospital is seeking a full-time surgeon for this tertiary care centre within the Vancouver Coastal Health Region. The start date is negotiable within 12 months of the original job posting date.

Our Division is actively involved in the education of nurses, medical students, residents and fellows, and is affiliated with the University of British Columbia.

The focus of the new surgeon’s elective practice will be hip and knee arthroplasty. In addition, the surgeon will be part of the orthopaedic trauma team at Lions Gate Hospital (approximately 50% practice volume). Our team performs over 1,500 trauma cases per year, including a large volume of complex extremity fractures, multi-ligament knee injuries, and periprosthetic fractures. There are 45 hours of daytime orthopaedic trauma time allotted per week for treating fractures and other orthopaedic emergency cases.

In order to properly evaluate candidates, eligible applicants will be expected to undertake a locum of 3-4 weeks’ duration with financial compensation. The locum will be responsible for covering on-call duties, including emergency consultations and the surgical management of acute orthopaedic problems. They will also be provided with time in the Cast Clinic for the assessment and/or follow-up of patients. The locum will be expected to assist other team members and run office clinics during this period of evaluation.

Candidates must have completed an accredited orthopaedic surgery residency program. Appropriate Fellowship training and/or practice experience is essential. Eligibility for licensure by the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons is a necessity. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to patient care, quality improvement, and be able to work respectfully with fellow healthcare professionals.
