BC Clinical Anesthesiology Fellowship Program

BC Clinical Anesthesiology Fellowship Program

May 08, 2020

The British Columbia Ministry of Health (the Ministry) has collaborated with the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Medicine (UBC FoM), the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC), and health authorities in British Columbia (BC), to offer up to six 12-month anesthesiology fellowships based at St. Paul’s Hospital, Royal Columbian Hospital, Kelowna General Hospital and Surrey Memorial Hospital.
The BC Clinical Anesthesiology Fellowship is an incredible opportunity for US-trained physicians who have successfully completed a four-year anesthesiology residency accredited by Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and US licensing examinations to work in BC. In addition, interested applicants must be Board Certified/Board Eligible in Anesthesiology and also be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or have the legal ability to live and work in BC.
The successful candidates will have the chance to work in one of 4 affiliated teaching hospitals of UBC, teach rounds and simulation sessions, and be supervised by members of the anesthesia staff. The successful candidate will also be required to sign a two-year Return of Service (RoS) Contract. After completing the 12-month anesthesiology fellowship, which will be funded by the province of BC, the candidate will go on to provide anesthesiology services for a two-year period in a Ministry of Health/Health Authority identified community of need.
Applications are accepted at any time. The fellowship is 12 months in duration, with variable start dates that suit the individual and the hosting site. Additional information on the application process, eligibility requirements, clinical and academic structure can be found on the UBC Faculty of Medicine website.
