They say that one of the best things you can do on BC's Islands is nothing at all. Stroll the beach. Watch the eagles soar. Savour the breathtaking views at every turn.
BC's unique island culture is home to many ex-urbanites seeking a quieter way of life.

Across the Strait of Georgia and running parallel to the mainland coast is Vancouver Island, the largest island in the province and the largest North American island in the Pacific Ocean. With its temperate climate, this is an ideal region for outdoor recreation be it camping and hiking in pristine wilderness, fishing in fresh or saltwater, cycling along scenic routes, or discovering the old-growth forests. Vancouver Island is also home to the renowned  Clayoquot Sound,  recently named BC's first United Nations Biosphere Reserve. Close by are hundreds of smaller islands, including the Gulf Islands, known worldwide for their stunning scenery and relaxed  lifestyle. A short ferry ride from Vancouver Island, they feature abundant flora and fauna, relative isolation and natural beauty, and thriving arts and cultural communities.

Forestry, fishing, and tourism are the main industries in this region. An intricate transportation network provides convenient access to both the major centres, such as Comox, Nanaimo, and Campbell River, as well as the smaller towns of Tofino and Port Alberni. Also located in this region is the city of Victoria, the provincial capital, and the University of Victoria.

British Columbia's patient-centred health care system is structured to achieve the highest possible levels of efficiency, service co-ordination, and accountability. The Islands geographic reagion is made  up of two health authorities,  Vancouver Island and Provincial Health Services.
