Groomed parks give way to lush wilderness. Dairy farms lie just beyond mountain canyons. Sidewalks quickly turn to sandy beaches. No matter where you are in the Vancouver Coast and Fraser Valley region, nature is at your doorstep.

You can live here and get away from it all in no time. Take a boat or plane north to the picturesque fishing villages and local artist communities of the Sunshine Coast. Drive along the spectacular Sea to Sky highway to reach the snow-capped mountains of Whistler, North America's number one ski resort. Enjoy the serenity of the hot springs of the eastern Fraser Valley, a place of fertile farmland and accessible wilderness. Occupying the southwest corner of BC, and blessed with a diverse climate and terrain, this region is home to lush coastal rainforest, semi-arid ranch lands and glacial peaks, as well as ocean waters, roaring rivers and placid mountain lakes.

The economic heart of the province, this region features a broad manufacturing, trade and service base, and is also active in agriculture, tourism and forestry. It is well served by all major modes of transportation. Vancouver, BC's largest city, is located in this region and is home to the provinces major medical and research centres as well as the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University.  The towns of the Fraser Valley include Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Mission.

British Columbia's patient-centred health care system is structured to achieve the highest possible levels of efficiency, service co-ordination, and accountability. The Vancouver Coast and Fraser Valley geographic region is made up of three health authorities, Fraser Health,  Vancouver Coastal, and Provincial Health Services as well as the Providence Health Care organization.
