Snow-capped mountains, fertile valleys, lush green forests and one of the world's most spectacular coastlines - this is British Columbia. Arguably Canada's most beautiful province, BC has much to offer. Whether you seek the peace and solitude of the great outdoors, or enjoy the sense of camaraderie that comes from being involved in your community, there is something here for you.
BC is Canada's most westerly province, bordered by the Yukon and Northwest Territories to the north, Alberta to the east, and the three US states of Washington, Idaho and Alaska to the south. The province's magnificent coastline, with its many bays and inlets, stretches more than 7,000 kilometres. Much of BC lies within a system of mountain ranges running roughly northwest to southeast throughout the province. Approximately 60% of the land mass is covered with coniferous forests, and freshwater lakes and fast flowing rivers abound.
With its captivating geography, BC's great outdoors beckon, no matter where you live. The sheer range of recreational opportunities available means there's virtually something for everyone, from adventure sports like heli-skiing and white-water rafting to quieter pursuits such as beachcombing and whale watching. With its attractive rural and urban communities, four-seasons climate, and modern transportation system, it is little wonder that this province is considered one of the best places in the world to live.
